Job Description

Role overview

Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH is part of Penguin Random House, the world's largest consumer publishing group and a division of the media, services, and education company Bertelsmann. We publish up to 2,500 books, audiobooks, and digital formats annually across fiction, non-fiction, children's and young adult books, audio, illustrated books, and guides. As the largest German-language consumer publishing group, we are the publishing home for many significant and successful authors. We offer our employees diverse entrepreneurial fields and creative challenges.

We are offering apprenticeships for Media Merchants for Digital and Print (m/f/d) starting on April 1, 2027, or September 1, 2027.

What you can expect

During the 2.5-year commercial apprenticeship, you will gain comprehensive insights into all essential functional areas: from editorial and production to press and public relations, logistics and sales, as well as licenses, finance, People & Culture, and marketing.

Furthermore, we offer you the opportunity to get to know other exciting departments within our publishing group, including the Audio division, Strategic & Digital Development, and the Legal department. You will also be part of our apprentice project "Inside Penguin Random House," where you will form an internal editorial team with all other apprentices. In this role, you will actively support our publishers in content creation for various social media channels, multimedia coverage of readings and other publishing events, and bring fresh energy to our apprentice Instagram account by sharing exciting insights and background stories from everyday publishing life.

What we are looking for

  • Completed Realschulabschluss (intermediate school leaving certificate) or (technical) Abitur (university entrance qualification)
  • Passion for books and literature
  • A good sense for current trends and developments
  • Interest in commercial processes and tasks
  • Confident use of IT systems
  • Team orientation and excellent communication skills
  • Initial experience through industry-related internships is an advantage
  • Very good German language skills (C2) are required, as you will be dealing extensively with German literature during your apprenticeship.
  • English language skills at B2 level would be a nice extra!

Compensation and Benefits

  • 38-hour work week
  • 30 vacation days per year
  • 13.4 monthly salaries
  • Theory phases at MEDIACampus Frankfurt
  • Capital-forming benefits | subsidized Deutschlandticket | coffee bar | subsidized company restaurant | in-house media store | underground parking
  • Sports and health offers (e.g., EGYM-Wellpass, company doctor service, social counseling)
  • Development and further training opportunities as well as over 5,000 free e-learning training courses
  • As an employer, we participate in diverse (social) projects. We take responsibility for sustainability by continuously developing our products, consistently reducing their CO₂ footprint, and sustainably improving all production processes, while also ensuring that our workplace is oriented towards sustainable aspects.

Application Information

  • Please submit your application documents by October 11, 2026.

Have we sparked your interest? We look forward to receiving your application!

Applications from people with disabilities are expressly welcome. We are particularly pleased to receive applications from candidates who contribute to the diversity of our company.
